About this role
Summary:
The Driver, Transportation Special Needs, will perform skilled work in the operation of specialty equipment designed to meet the special requirements of the district’s special needs and McKinney-Vento population. The Driver, Transportation Special Needs, will provide curb-to-curb isolated transportation services to multiple students who cannot be accessed with the district’s yellow bus fleet.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS: All district employees must:

· Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.
Responsibilities:
· Follows a designated route and an established time schedule while picking up students and dropping them off at specific locations on a printed route.
· Observes all state, city, and local traffic laws and regulations.
· Communicates effectively with students, parents, and school personnel.
· Ensures vehicle meets regular maintenance schedules.
· Reports defects or problems with vehicle to shop supervisor.
· Completes various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, incident reports, and accident reports.
· Ensures assigned vehicle is clean at all times.
· Completes a minimum of eight (8) hours of driver-related training annually.
· Certified in First Aid and CPR as prescribed by Florida Statute for Drivers.
· Performs any other duties as assigned.

Safety & Security: Observes safety and security procedures. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines. Uses equipment and materials properly. Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
Self-Management: Regulates impact of own emotions upon others. Remains focused and energized under stress. Accepts criticism and recovers quickly from setbacks. Projects realistic self-confidence in abilities.
Personal Appearance: Dresses appropriately for position. Keeps self well-groomed.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years driving experience.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Possession of a valid State of Florida Class E driver’s license. Meet Safe Driver Plan requirements.
Language Skills: Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical Activities: Sitting, standing, walking, stooping, climbing, balancing, talking, hearing, depth perception, and field of vision.
Lifting Demands: Up to 55 pounds.
Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity: 3, moderate; extreme cold and extreme heat.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical mobility and stamina to participate in activities that may be strenuous.
