Electrical Engineer 1 (2026 Start!)

CDM Smith is hiring an Electrical Engineer 1 to support the design and analysis of electrical systems for client projects. The role includes preparing basic designs and calculations, selecting electrical components, reviewing designs for regulatory compliance, and contributing technical documentation and presentations.

What you'll do:

• Under direct supervision, creates basic designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems
• Performs studies of power systems and electrical calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and other similar calculations
• Of basic complexity to meet client project requirements
• Assists with the selection and specification of electrical components including: motor control centers, switchgears, transformers, etc
• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs
• Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications
• Updates design requirements as necessary
• Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc
• Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals
• Performs other duties as required
• May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference

What they're looking for:

• Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices
• Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design
• Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.)
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline

• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
• No-We will not support sponsorship in the United States, i.e. H-1B or TN Visas for this position
