Electrical Engineer I

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. They are seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer I to provide Timing and Firing support, diagnostic fielding, and development support in a national laboratory environment.

What you'll do:

• Frequently use and apply established technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques commonly associated with Firing systems and data collection systems
• Operate diagnostic systems and collect data
• Focus is on applying academic knowledge to the work environment and developing good work/team habits
• Contribute to solutions of problems and issues with limited scope and basic complexity, using a well-defined set of technologies, generally in support of more senior engineers and scientists
• Assist in compiling and summarizing scientific and technical data, utilizing technology solutions for both experimental and operational needs
• Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables
• Define specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests
• Select and implement computer applications for related field
• Build direct relationships with laboratory partners and will use scientific methods to contribute to experimental operations, also reporting on accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders
• Support research and development, and technology maturation activities in laboratory testing environments

What they're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
• Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position
• Knowledge/experience with fiberoptics and diode lasers
• Knowledge/experience with coax cables and other types of copper transmission lines
• Able to read and understand schematic drawings and one-lines
• Experience with setting up and operating research and development (R&D) instrumentation in a laboratory setting
• Other required skills include exposure in programming platforms, good technical writing and communication skills, and familiarity with PCs and PC application software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Desire to learn and innovate
• Ability to work in high stress, procedurally rigorous environments
• Ability to work in hazardous environments that include high voltage systems, visible and ultraviolet lasers, large scale pulsed power machines, and vacuum and pressurized systems
• A desire and ability to develop solutions to moderately complex engineering problems after minimal guidance
• Must be willing to travel occasional to the North Las Vegas Facility, Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Livermore, California, in support of these functions
