About this role
Ahlstrom is a global leader in sustainable specialty materials made from fibers. The Electrical Engineer Intern will gain hands-on experience in a paper manufacturing facility by supporting electrical systems, process improvements, reliability initiatives, automation, and capital projects.
What you'll do:
- Must follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper
- Assist with troubleshooting and improving electrical and control systems throughout the mill
- Support engineers with electrical design, modifications, and upgrades to manufacturing equipment
- Participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance
- Assist with PLC, instrumentation, motor control, and automation projects
- Analyze equipment performance data and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Support capital project planning, execution, and commissioning activities
- Develop and update electrical drawings, documentation, and technical procedures
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment issues
- Participate in safety programs and help ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards

- • Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering degree program
- • Interest in industrial electrical systems, automation, controls, or manufacturing processes
- • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- • Effective written and verbal communication skills
- • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- • Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting and spending time on the production floor
- • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and will not require current or future sponsorship for employment
- • Minimum sophomore standing preferred
- • Experience with PLCs, AutoCAD, electrical design software, or industrial automation systems is a plus
