About this role
WSP is an engineering and professional services firm serving communities through engineering, planning, technical expertise, and construction management. The Electrical Engineering Co-op will gain hands-on experience supporting electrical engineering and design for building and construction projects, including power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems, field work, documentation, and engineering drawings.
What you'll do:
- Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
- Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering and related disciplines including: + Power distribution design and analysis + Lighting design, analysis and controls. + Low-Voltage systems’ design and analysis
- Become familiar with reading and interpreting building plans and electrical diagrams
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis
- Learn Autodesk Revit to model Electrical, Lighting & Low Voltage components and systems
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop engineering drawings and specifications
- Travel to job sites to survey and review existing buildings and construction progress through various stages of a project
- Become familiar with various engineering standards and codes
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation
- Complete training on assigned tasks
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
What they're looking for:
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related Undergraduate program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2027 or later
- Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering, or related, field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2027 or later
- Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit
- Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
