About this role

Hatch is an engineering and project delivery company serving the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors. The Electrical Engineering Intern will support the Project Delivery Group from the Tampa office by assisting with electrical engineering calculations, technical specifications, power system studies, detailed designs, drawings, and multidisciplinary project coordination.

What you'll do:

  • Assist Electrical Engineers in preparing engineering calculations such as load flow analysis and short circuit analysis
  • Prepare technical specifications for equipment procurement and construction contracts and write reports for power system studies such as arc flash analysis, protective device coordination, and transient stability studies
  • Acquire knowledge in power distribution systems, instrumentation and controls, switchgear, stand-by power systems, load and fault current calculations, power flow and short circuit analysis, SCADA and telemetry, lighting systems, and NEC code compliance
  • Gain valuable on-site practical experience
  • Perform assignments related to your sector
  • Assist with preparation of detailed design for projects
  • Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications
  • Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or chemical engineering with an interest in controls or computer science
  • Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Understanding of inter-discipline requirements for the tasks at hand
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to various practical problems
  • A desire to learn and continually develop
