About this role

AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm delivering engineering, design, and construction solutions. The Electrical Engineering Intern will support engineering design, calculations, documentation, power distribution and lighting systems, and project work across multiple facility types under the supervision of experienced engineers.

What you'll do:

  • Build analytic and design skills
  • Conduct engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer
  • Collect and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision
  • Design and document normal, standby and emergency power distribution systems
  • Design and document normal and emergency lighting systems for interior and exterior applications
  • Perform calculations to support designs
  • Work through all project design phases including construction administration
  • Work on varying project types and sizes including laboratories, educational facilities, office spaces, mission critical facilities, and cultural facilities
  • Work in a team environment

What they're looking for:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field and must have completed at least two of years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the Master's degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor's degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes office work in Arlington, VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Arlington, VA
  • Use AutoCAD and/or Revit for creating construction documents, sketches, etc
  • Knowledge of SKM and/or ETAP to perform electrical studies
  • Knowledge of AGi32 software to perform lighting calculations
  • Experience of design work for new construction and renovation projects
  • Prior internship experience utilizing drafting, surveying, and/or construction administration skills
