Electrical & Optical Engineering Intern

VIAVI Solutions is a global provider of network test, monitoring, assurance, and light management technologies. The Electrical & Optical Engineering Intern will support the design, development, simulation, testing, and troubleshooting of optical and electrical systems in an R&D environment while documenting results and collaborating with senior engineers.

What you'll do:

• Assist in the design, simulation, and analysis of electrical circuits and optical components
• Conduct laboratory experiments, collect data, and perform preliminary analysis on prototypes and existing systems
• Support the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and optical modules and sub-assemblies
• Contribute to the development and improvement of test procedures and fixtures
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on project progress
• Document experimental results, procedures, and findings in a clear and concise manner
• Collaborate with senior engineers on various projects, learning from their expertise
• Research and evaluate new technologies, components, and methodologies relevant to optical and electrical engineering

What they're looking for:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• Strong foundational understanding of electrical circuit theory, electromagnetism, and optics
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, optical spectrum analyzers, and power meters
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, Zemax, COMSOL) is a plus
• Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data acquisition and analysis are desirable
