About this role
VIAVI Solutions is a global provider of network test, monitoring, assurance, and light management technologies. The Electrical & Optical Engineering Intern will support the design, development, simulation, testing, and troubleshooting of optical and electrical systems in an R&D environment while documenting results and collaborating with senior engineers.
What you'll do:
- Assist in the design, simulation, and analysis of electrical circuits and optical components
- Conduct laboratory experiments, collect data, and perform preliminary analysis on prototypes and existing systems
- Support the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and optical modules and sub-assemblies
- Contribute to the development and improvement of test procedures and fixtures
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on project progress
- Document experimental results, procedures, and findings in a clear and concise manner
- Collaborate with senior engineers on various projects, learning from their expertise
- Research and evaluate new technologies, components, and methodologies relevant to optical and electrical engineering
What they're looking for:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- Strong foundational understanding of electrical circuit theory, electromagnetism, and optics
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, optical spectrum analyzers, and power meters
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, Zemax, COMSOL) is a plus
- Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data acquisition and analysis are desirable
