Help protect the traveling public by inspecting, repairing, and maintaining the computerized traffic control systems and flashing beacons within District 08, encompassing a seven (7) parish area. Electrician supports all electrical maintenance and electrical repair work for the numerous buildings and offices maintained and operated within District 08. Also, this team is responsible for the electrical repair, maintenance and operation of one (1) vertical lift bridge. 

Two years of experience or training in the electrical trade is required —with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Electrician job series.

This is a hands-on field role that requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and strong documentation skills. Work is performed in a variety of environments and may involve heights, water, traffic exposure, weather conditions, and travel to bridge locations within the assigned district.

Positions are located in Rapides, District 08/Unit 751 and report to Electronic Tech Supervisor / Christopher Goatley.

Position Duties

Job Duties:

Depending on level and assignment, Electrician may:

  • Install and maintain generators and power distribution systems
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical systems and equipment. This includes indoor and outdoor lighting, heating, and air conditioning equipment, refrigeration equipment, emergency power plants and control panels. 
  • Prepare Daily Work Reports (DWR) for all building maintenance work. 
  • Perform detailed preventive maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems
  • Repair traffic signal data communication systems for computerized traffic signal systems
  • Maintains and repairs electrical equipment and systems on moveable bridges
  • Performs the opening of moveable bridges on demand twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week
  • Support emergency/disaster response activities when needed


Position-Specific Details:

Compensation:

 Electrician – $40,914.00 Annual 
 Electrician Specialist – $43,784.00 Annual
 Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Career Progression: Vacancies may be filled as Electrician or Electrician Specialist based on qualifications and agency needs.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
