Embedded Systems Engineering Intern - Spring '27

SmartFlower Solar develops innovative photovoltaic solar systems that track the sun and support residential and commercial clean-energy applications. The Embedded Systems Engineering Intern will assist with engineering and service activities, develop and deploy firmware, validate new features, monitor system performance, and improve firmware release processes.

What you'll do:

• Assist with engineering and service of Smartflower Solar systems
• Develop, test and deploy new firmware solutions to boost ease of use, product reliability, serviceability or performance
• Partner with SmartFlower technical team members and external engineering contractors to develop, validate and release software or firmware solutions
• Validate new features prior to release. Monitor fleet performance to identify field issues early and own their containment and resolution
• Support continuous improvement efforts around the firmware release process including enhanced documentation, version control, release package build and OTA update management

What they're looking for:

• Are working towards a computer, electrical, robotics or equivalent engineering degree
• Are proficient programming in modern languages such as C / C++ and Python
• Can share a portfolio of previous work demonstrating experience with embedded systems
• Operate with a hands-on approach, are self-motivated, and love to work on hardware products
• Are able to work independently, manage time and prioritize your work
• Demonstrate independence, a self-starter attitude with strong communication skills
