Engineer I - Simulator Software & Model Development - Space Vehicle Systems

BAE Systems’ Space & Mission Systems sector develops technologies supporting space, defense, and civil space missions. The Engineer I will develop real-time simulations of space vehicles, support hardware-software integration, and participate in the full software development lifecycle while collaborating in an Agile, mission-focused environment.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, and implement real‑time simulations of space vehicles
• Participate in the full software lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, coding, testing, integration, and documentation
• Work within an Agile development environment using GitLab, coding standards, DevSecOps pipelines, and modern workflow practices
• Gain exposure to container technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes), messaging protocols (Google Protobufs), shared‑memory and high‑performance data architectures (Infiniband, RDMA), and network concepts (VLANs, PTP). Prior experience in these areas is welcome
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment
• Perform other duties as necessary

What they're looking for:

• * BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required
• * Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education
• * Experience or coursework in software development using languages such as C/C++, Ruby, Rust, or Python
• * Exposure to model‑based simulations using MATLAB/Simulink
• * Interest in real‑time operating systems (Linux, VxWorks) or real‑time application development
• * Familiarity with or curiosity about control theory, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, or processor‑in‑the‑loop simulations
• * Understanding of the software development lifecycle, version control tools, coding standards, and collaborative workflows
• A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position
• However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access
• Experience with automated code generation (Embedded Coder, Simulink Coder, MATLAB Coder) is a plus but not mandatory
