Job Description
Best Buy is seeking an Engineer II to design, build, and support enterprise identity services across Microsoft Active Directory, Ping Directory, and Entra ID. This role supports and may lead the development and implementation of directory and identity solutions, supports complex initiatives, and serves as an escalation point for production issues.
The engineer will evaluate new technologies, partner with internal teams, and deliver scalable solutions that support business needs. Core responsibilities include managing Active Directory infrastructure/configuration/automation, configuring Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and supporting enterprise authentication systems.
In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another non‑Best Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team, and the recruiter or hiring manager will provide additional details during the hiring process.

What You’ll Do
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve and expand service capabilities
- Lead root cause analysis and problem management for identity platforms
- Act as an escalation point for complex production and application issues
- Provide guidance and technical direction to resolve critical incidents
- Monitor system health, availability, and performance across directory services
- Install, configure, and maintain Active Directory and related technologies
- Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, processes, and troubleshooting
- Automate recurring tasks and improve operational efficiency
- Manage stakeholder expectations through clear and consistent communication
- Define and enforce security standards and access controls to protect directory systems
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relecant professional experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 2+ years of experience with Active Directory, LDAP Directories and EntraID related disciplines (engineering, administration, and support)
- 2+ years of experience with PowerShell automation and Group Policy management
- 1+ years of experience supporting audit and compliance programs (internal or external)
- Ability to participate in on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Demonstrated growth in responsibility with strong troubleshooting skills
- Deep understanding of industry best practices in identity and access management
- Advanced knowledge of Active Directory GPO administration
- Strong experience with Active Directory in Windows Server 2019–2022 environments
- Solid understanding of DNS within enterprise/cloud/hybrid environments
- Experience with Windows infrastructure, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, EC2), and networking (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPN)
- Experience working in an Agile environment
