This position is with the Construction Crew 3.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of closing date.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the position is to provide support and assistance to the Project Manager and field technicians for Crew 4319 Hilltop Project office. Employees in this role review construction contracts and plans; review, analyze, and verify project information, including cost estimates, project construction quantities, and contractor correspondence; research and compute data; develop spreadsheets; prepares reports and project pay estimates; provide technical expertise and guidance to staff and consultants; Maintain project office with internal procedures (i.e. Office Procedures Manual, ODDs, etc.).

How does it get done?

The position will perform administrative, engineering, field, and office management functions such as advanced field inspection, daily documentation, review of submittal, shop drawings, RFIs, preparing and reviewing cost estimates, change orders, maintaining and updating files, review and implementation of manuals and reporting procedures.

New Mexico Department of Transportation employees and the public.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in the following:

* Construction operations,
* Interpreting roadway construction plans,
* Calculating mathematical computations such as volume and area from construction drawings, and
* Familiar with the New Mexico Department of Transportation standards specifications for highway and bridge construction or any road design specifications, codes or manuals.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline and two (2) years of progressive experience under the direct supervision of an Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must possess FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Business employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must possess FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification by the New Mexico Board of Licensed Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors (NMBLPEPS). You must include your license or certificate number in the "License" section of the application form.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting. Exposure to: Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to meet multiple deadlines. Occasional statewide and out of state travel maybe required.
