The Central Regional Division provides engineering, design, and project development services to District Three and District Six in order to provide the central region of New Mexico with safe transportation services while implementing innovative design.
The Central Regional Division also acts as a liaison between Districts, Local Entities, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), providing technical assistance to ensure local government project design plans can be constructed.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position is the second level of the Engineering Series which performs standard engineering assignments of limited to moderate complexity in a relevant discipline in accordance with accepted agency practices The person in this postilion exercises limited Judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work.

Licensed Professional Engineer will provide general review of an aspects of this person's work and provide close supervision on unusual or difficult problems or work assignments.

How does it get done?

 
This position is responsible for the following:

Performs basic design and analysis tasks with increased level of responsibility throughout their tenure; Reviews Contractor submittals for proposed construction projects

Interprets technical review of consultant designs, reports and plans;
Performs field inspections and investigations as needed

Collects and reviews field test data for quality assurance purposes and to ensure project construction time schedule is met

Provides basic review of project technical specifications and construction drawings;Analyzes data from laboratory tests and field explorations

Prepares projects (contracts, estimates and plans, etc.) for supervisor review and approval;Assists in the development of field investigation requirements, inspections and testing for projects

Assists Professional Engineer with assigned project tasks and Prepares written summaries of design reviews and analysis for project documentation, and maintains proper records of design changes.

This position serves the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Central Region Design as well as the governmental and general public.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:

* Four (4) years of progressive experience under the direct supervision of a professional engineer.
* Perform basic design and analysis tasks with Increased level of responsibility through their tenure.
*  Review Contractor submittal  for proposed construction projects.
*  Interpret technical review of consultant designs, reports and plans.
* Perform field inspections and investigations as needed.

Minimum Qualification

 
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline and two (2) years of progressive experience under the direct supervision of an Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must possess FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements

 
Pre-Employment Physical Exam.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed in an office setting. Exposure to: Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to meet multiple deadlines. Occasional statewide and out of state travel maybe required.
