Join Nationwide as a Software Engineer and help shape the technology future of servicing at Nationwide Financial. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of Post Issue Optimization while contributing to innovative software solutions that create meaningful value for customers and associates. The ideal candidate will have experience with Java, Angular, and AWS.
This role follows a hybrid schedule, working from the Columbus, Ohio office two days per week on Mondays and Tuesdays. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.
## Job Description Summary
As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high-quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. You’ll code, configure, test, debug, document, and maintain applications.
## Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to engineering standards and best practices.
- Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
- Use DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement and learning.
- Review and process project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned.Reporting relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
## Typical Skills and Experiences
- Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degrees are preferred. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
- Experience: Early-career opportunity with one or more years of technology experience.
- Knowledge, abilities, and skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript; knowledge of the software development lifecycle; good problem-solving skills; and ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance or financial services industry knowledge is a plus.Other criteria, such as competencies and experiences, may take precedence. Staffing exceptions must be approved by the Director and HR Officer. Regularly and consistently demonstrates Nationwide Values.
## Job Conditions
- Overtime eligibility: Not eligible (exempt).
- Working conditions: Hybrid in a normal office environment.
