About this role

Waukesha County provides public-sector services and infrastructure for its community. The Engineering Intern will support the Department of Public Works Engineering Division with the design, construction, and operation of the county highway system, gaining practical experience in civil engineering through roadway, bridge, surveying, traffic, and construction projects.

What you'll do:

  • Roadway Design
  • CAD Drafting/Civil 3D
  • Roadway Plan Production
  • Construction Estimating
  • Design Field Surveying and Staking
  • Topographic and Boundary Surveys
  • Appraisal and Construction Staking
  • Traffic Analysis and Reports
  • Traffic Data Collection
  • Construction Inspection and Record Keeping
  • Bridge Construction Inspection and Record Keeping
  • Asphalt Paving Program Construction Administration and Inspection

What they're looking for:

  • Current enrollment in a 4-year Engineering Bachelor's Degree program or a 2-year Engineering Technician Associate Degree program, and possess the following:
  • Proven oral and written communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to expand and improve problem solving skills
  • Competent in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and other staff
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D and GIS and robotic surveying equipment
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
