About this role
EMCORE is an aerospace and defense company seeking a part-time Engineering Intern to support its engineering team at the Quartz MEMS facility. The intern will assist with hardware design, analysis, testing, data reporting, technical documentation, and cross-functional engineering projects under the guidance of an assigned mentor.
What you'll do:
- Assist engineering staff with design, analysis, testing, and documentation tasks on assigned projects
- Support data collection, reduction, and reporting for engineering tests and experiments
- Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and project status updates
- Create and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and procedures as directed
- Use engineering tools and software (e.g., CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent) to complete assigned tasks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and communicate progress to the assigned mentor/manager
- Adhere to EMCORE's safety, quality, and export control policies and procedures
What they're looking for:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program (Associate's, Bachelor's, or Graduate level) in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0, or as otherwise approved by the hiring manager
- Basic proficiency with engineering or scientific software tools appropriate to the assigned discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work on site in Concord, CA per the schedule and hours outlined in the Intern Contract Details section below
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residence)
- The ideal candidate will work 16 to 24 (not to exceed 29) hours per week on site in Concord during typical business hours (7:00am – 5:00pm)
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools
- Coursework or project experience related to sensors, optics, or space/defense hardware
- Experience with test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters)
- Prior exposure to an aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment
