Engineering Intern

Omaha Public Power District is a publicly owned electric utility serving communities across eastern Nebraska. The Engineering Intern will participate in full-time co-op assignments supporting power generation, transmission, substation, design engineering, asset management, or distribution operations through engineering analysis, field work, data investigation, design, testing, and project execution.

What you'll do:

• Work on site at a power generation facility
• Work may include design development, investigating and resolving equipment problems, coordinating the work activities of outside consulting engineers to resolve equipment problems, preparing plant performance trends, field verify and update drawings, supporting testing and inspections of equipment, assisting in system health monitoring, and performing component criticality classifications
• The COOP is designed for hands-on and in-depth experiences of an electric utility transmission infrastructure environment
• The co-op will gain understanding of transmission line design drawings, construction drawing, regulatory requirements, and industry standards as it relates to design, procurement, construction, and commissioning
• Experience will also include material procurement, contract preparation, substation and structure site visits and other aspects from project execution to close-out
• Students will work in an engineering team environment with civil, structural, and electrical engineers along with CADD operators resulting in exposures across various disciplines and skillsets
• Project experience will entail structure design, foundations, line clearance analysis, PLS-CADD software analysis, contract development and bid review
• This program is designed for hands-on and in-depth experiences of an electric utility substation environment
• The co-op will gain understanding of equipment (transformers, arresters, breakers, switches, batteries, etc.) design drawings, regulatory requirements, and industry standards as it relates to design, procurement, construction, and commissioning
• Experience will also include material procurement, contract preparation, substation site visits and other aspects from project execution to close-out
• Student will work in an engineering team environment with civil, structural, and electrical engineers along with CADD operators resulting in exposures across various Disciplines and skillsets
• Project experience will entail battery sizing, equipment (RTU, breaker, relaying) design and wiring, software analysis, contract development and bid review
