Position Title: Engineering Technician

Summary: Applies standard engineering techniques to design, develop, and maintain instrumentation and controls systems
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains manufacturing or similar processes through the use of instrumentation or controls systems.
- Recommends new and modifies existing PLC or HMI applications, interfaces, or embedded controls.
- Participates in set-up and commissioning of new facilities or upgrading of existing facilities.
- Troubleshoots and resolves malfunctions and makes recommendations that will improve efficiency, reliability, and/or quality of operations.
- Documents specifications and operating procedures.
- Provides technical assistance and resolution when electrical or instrumentation problems are encountered before, during, and after construction.
- Assembles electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Collaborates with electrical and control engineers, contractors, vendors, and other personnel to identify, define, and solve developmental problems.
- Analyzes and interprets test information to resolve design-related problems. Draws or modifies diagrams and writes engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental electronics units.
- Conducts inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations.
- Develops maintenance preventive and predictive maintenance strategies based on engineering and vendor recommendations.
- May prepare project cost and work-time estimates.
- Advises the Maintenance Lead Person, Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Scheduler when logged spare parts or supplies are used or are in need of replacement
- Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
- Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
- May serve as lead trainer for knowledge and use of Emerson Delta V system
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High School diploma or GED required with trade school and/or technical certification or accreditation required
- Must have had a minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience
- Minimum of 3 years PLC Programming and Controls experience highly preferred
- Experience and familiarity with Emerson (Delta V) strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, work instructions, and complex design manuals
- Mechanical skills involving the use of basic tools
- Strong computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Knowledge of preventive & predictive maintenance and ERP systems
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manual
- Ability to safely work independently or in a team setting in a high temperature non-production line setting
- Ability to organize and complete multi-task assignments
- Ability to work in multi-level building and at times confined spaces
- Ability to work from heights and operate mobile equipment such as Telehandlers, Jenny Booms, and Genie Lifts.

Work Environment:
This individual works in a multi-level industrial environment requiring work in high precarious places via ladders and steps inside and outside the plant in all types of weather conditions. This individual is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and some hazardous chemicals. The plant utilizes high levels of electricity and individuals have to be safety minded in all activities.
