Entry-Level Occupational Safety and Health Data Analyst

ERG is a research and consulting firm that supports federal, state, and commercial clients through multidisciplinary expertise. The company seeks an entry-level analyst to analyze and classify workplace injury and illness data, draft incident narratives, and assign case characteristic codes using the BLS Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System. The role also involves managing work queues, collaborating with analysts, and contributing to process improvements supporting OSHA’s worker safety programs.

What you'll do:

• Review workplace injury, illness, and fatality records and apply standardized case‑classification codes using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS)
• Exercise thoughtful, independent judgment to accurately classify complex or ambiguous cases while maintaining speed and consistency
• Draft brief, clear incident narratives that summarize the circumstances of each case in plain, concise language
• Manage multiple work queues and deadlines while maintaining high quality and attention to detail
• Collaborate regularly with team members and senior analysts for guidance, quality checks, and knowledge sharing
• Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and evolving analytical practices over time
• Experience with occupational health and safety and structured coding (e.g. OIICS, ICD coding) is preferred. However, training for OIICS version 3.03 coding will be provided

What they're looking for:

• - A bachelor's degree in communications, health/environmental science, mathematics/statistics, or a related field
• - Experience required: 0 to 5 years
• - Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to apply rules consistently
• - Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
• - Outstanding time-management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment to accomplish assignments in a timely manner
• - Experience or strong interest in data analysis, public health, occupational safety, epidemiology, or related fields
• - Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
• - Willingness and ability to learn new software and technical skills as required
• - Experience with structured classification or coding systems (e.g., OIICS, ICD, or similar)
• - Experience or coursework in data analysis or data management. Prior exposure to occupational health, injury or illness surveillance, or public health research
