THE POSITION
As an Equipment Operator B with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), you can advance your role in the Rothrock Forest District by taking on more complex maintenance and construction tasks. This position lets you work with a wide range of heavy equipment while supporting the care of roads, trails, and forest facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position plays a key role in maintaining and improving roads, facilities, and equipment throughout the Rothrock Forest District. It focuses on safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery used in construction, repair, and daily maintenance. As an Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Run graders, loaders, dozers, tractors, and trucks for forest road and facility projects
- Perform Maintenance Tasks: Complete routine inspections and minor repairs on assigned machinery and equipment
- Support Facility Upkeep: Repair forest roads, maintain culverts, and assist with building and trail maintenance
- Assist Fire Response: Help with wildfire suppression, equipment operation, and prevention activities
- Maintain Records: Document equipment use, repairs and inspections to support operational needs
- Conduct Field Work: Use chainsaws and other tools to clear trails, maintain boundaries, and support forest projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Organization or Location Restrictions:
- This posting is restricted to Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Rothrock Forest District employees only.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A; or
- Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
- Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Condition of Employment:
This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

- Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications:
- Equipment Operator A
- Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
- The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
- Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher.
- Applicants must have a minimum of one year in the next lower class by the posting closing date with no break in service.
