Fall 2026/Spring 2027 - Software Engineering Intern - 90413033 - Washington

Amtrak is a railroad company focused on connecting businesses and communities across the country while prioritizing passenger, employee, public, and operational safety. The Software Engineering Intern will gain practical experience in cloud-based software engineering and the Customer & Revenue Systems portfolio while supporting software development, testing, reporting, and application security initiatives.

What you'll do:

• Gain general knowledge about existing software & application infrastructure along with the various aspects of software development lifecycle standards
• Assist in providing technical and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned tasks within scope, schedule, and budget
• Support the review and build of new software capabilities, ensuring adherence to software engineering standards and standard operating instructions
• Assist in conducting unit tests, with a focus on improving system reliability and enhancing Cyber Security posture of Amtrak applications
• Contribute to the development of reports and introduce innovative ideas, incorporating modern technology platforms for efficient information capture and analysis

What they're looking for:

• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution
• Must be actively pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science and/or Management & Information Systems
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 2 .8 or higher
• Experience with AWS services
• Understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
• Prior experience with web frameworks (e.g., Java, Spring Boot, Python)
• Coursework or projects demonstrating an interest in cloud computing or data science
