The Family Resource Specialist (FRS) ensures the Developmental Center for Infant and Children's Part C Early Intervention Program (EIP) is family-centered by advocating for families of infants and young children who have, or are at risk of developing disabilities or developmental delays. The FRS establishes rapport and a continuous relationship with a family requesting this service during the child's first 3 years of life through one-on-one or small group contact.

What you will do

• Responsibilities include being available to assist families in the Developmental Evaluation Clinic, conducting parent training classes and workshops, providing opportunities for parents to network and socialize, supplying written or other resources, answering questions and writing letters.
• The FRS initiates actions that will make it easier for parents to attend trainings, conducts public awareness activities, and helps families resolve disputes with the Early Steps.
• Additionally, the FRS develops an action plan to be submitted to the Early Steps on an annual basis, coordinates activities with the local Family Network on Disabilities and the Parents Resource Organization, and participates in EIP quality assurance activities.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Keeps abreast of relevant community services. Attend interagency meetings, in-service training programs and team meetings as delegated by the Manager of the Developmental Center. Participate in statewide meetings.
• Collaborates with other Developmental Center staff serving the same families to ensure coordinated care.
• Participates with the team in program planning and development; defining and implementing departmental objectives, procedures and policies; and ensuring the continuous improvement of services.
• Serves families in a manner that encourages them to make their own choices; responds to the needs and priorities they have established, respects their right to have personal and confidential matters dealt with in a dignified manner; and esteems their ethnic and cultural distinctiveness.
• The Family Resource Specialist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the clients served on his or her assigned caseload.
• The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and to possess the ability to assess data reflective of the client’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each client’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policy and procedures.

• High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma required. Required
• Must be a parent of a child who received early intervention services or would have been eligible to receive such services, as required by the Florida Department of Health, Children’s Medical Services Infants and Toddler’s Program Plan and Operations Guide (PPOG) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Part C of the Individuals with disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Required
• Six Months involvement in the community with knowledge of local resources. Required
• Communication skills that will enable participation in training teams and public presentations. Required
