Job Title: Family Therapist
Department: Outpatient Behavioral Health Services
Reports To: Clinical Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Contract
Work Location: In-Person, Telehealth, Mobile Unit, or Hybrid

Position Summary

The Family Therapist provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing behavioral health, emotional, relational, and substance use concerns. The Family Therapist utilizes evidence-based practices to improve family functioning, strengthen relationships, and promote healthy coping skills while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary treatment teams.

Services may be provided in person, through secure telehealth platforms, or a combination of both, depending on organizational and client needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on client and family needs.
  • Provide individual, family, couples, and group therapy.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, schools, and community agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency, Medicaid, insurance, CARF, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Educate families regarding behavioral health conditions, treatment recommendations, and community resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, continuing education, and required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.

Licensure

One of the following Missouri licenses is required:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Psychologist (preferred but not required)

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience providing behavioral health services.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong family systems therapy skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth technology.
