About this role
Description
The University of Chicago, Division of the Social Sciences, invites applications for appointment as a Fellow in Industry Lecturer in our MA programs. The selected appointees will be expected to teach a graduate course in Hyde Park, either during the day or in the evening (1-2 times per week) during the 2027 Spring Quarter. Remote instruction is not permitted. This is a part time, non-benefits eligible position. The appointment may be renewed dependent on funding and programmatic need.
The “Fellow in Industry” program is designed for working professionals to show our MA students how their graduate social science training can be used in the Fellow’s employment sector. We are especially interested in (a) persons who can show how advanced social science training can be used in international policy, government, NGO, or INGO work; and (b) persons who can show what advanced social science training can bring to the tech industry, whether in software development or in business operations. We welcome candidates from other employment sectors, though we caution that we are already well-represented with returning teachers in user experience, business strategy, fundraising, and grant writing.
The terms and conditions of employment for these positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a graduate degree in Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, or from a related interdisciplinary program. Applicants must have at least five years of work experience, outside the academy, in the employment sector that will be the basis for their teaching.
