Field Engineer II

BLOX is seeking a Field Engineer II to own overall document control for a BLOX jobsite, to drive the Quality Feedback Loop that returns field learning to the manufacturing plant, and to carry the supply chain and invoice verification work the Field Project Manager relies on. This is a fully traveling position based 100% onsite and the first Field Team role to which BLOX delegates real execution authority.

The jobsite is where BLOX’s promise becomes visible to the client, and the Field Engineer II is where the jobsite becomes legible to everyone who is not standing on it. This role produces the Client Weekly Progress Report that shapes the client’s understanding of the project, verifies the daily reports, equipment logs, and manpower tracking that every payment is based on, and drives the Quality Feedback Loop that makes the next module better than the last one. The DMC model only compounds if the field tells the plant the truth quickly, and that is this role’s work.

Job Responsibilities

Document Control & Information Management

• Manage overall jobsite document control: RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, meeting minutes, and the distribution of every one of them to the parties who need to act.

• Own the integrity of the jobsite record as the basis for entitlement, payment, and closeout.

• Assist the Field Project Manager with OAC meeting agendas and minutes.

• Create the Client Weekly Progress Report.

Site Operations & Logistics

• Track supply chain for the jobsite, including FKOP and DTS material, against the delivery schedule and the set sequence.

• Support module set and custody transfer activities with the documentation and verification they require.

• Drive the project closeout process, including O&M, warranty, punch, and as-built compilation.

Schedule Management

• Assist the Field Project Manager with project schedule updates from verified field progress, not estimate.

• Identify field activities that have slipped and report the downstream effect on set, inspection, or turnover.

Financial Management

• Assist the Field Project Manager with invoice approvals by reviewing superintendent daily reports, equipment logs, and manpower tracking for accuracy before any approval is given.

• Draft and issue purchase orders against approved buyout scope and budget.

• Assist the Field Project Manager with Change Orders and maintain the PCO log as changes arise.

Subcontractor & Vendor Management

• Manage subcontractors and vendors against documented scope, approved submittals, and BLOX quality and safety procedures.

• Hold subcontractors to their onboarding obligations, documentation requirements, and site rules.

Quality & Safety

• Implement and manage BLOX Safety and Quality procedures on the jobsite.

• Drive the Quality Feedback Loop process for the jobsite: capture the condition, route it to Manufacturing, and confirm the corrective action closed.

Team Leadership & Development

• Train Field Engineer I personnel on document control, material tracking, and observation reporting.

Scope of Authority

• Own and control the jobsite document record, including RFI, submittal, and drawing revision disposition routing.

• Draft and issue purchase orders against previously approved buyout scope and budget.

• Verify and recommend approval of vendor invoices and pay application backup; approval authority remains with the Field Project Manager.

• Direct subcontractors on documented scope compliance, quality standards, safety procedures, and site rules.

• Issue the Client Weekly Progress Report following Field Project Manager review.

• Train and direct Field Engineer I personnel.

Requires escalation

• Any direction to a subcontractor regarding means, methods, or sequence beyond documented scope compliance.

• Any authorization of extra work, backcharge, or field change; these require the Field Project Manager I or above.

• Approval of any vendor invoice, pay application, subcontract, or change order.

• Any commercial position or commitment taken with the client, the AHJ, or an inspector.

• Any dispute, claim, or client dissatisfaction.

• Any safety incident, quality escalation affecting installed work, or stop-work condition.

Job Skills & Qualifications

Required

• 2 to 4 years of relevant construction or field experience. A minimum of 2 years in role is required before advancement to Field Project Manager I.

• Working understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and the DMC methodology.

• Basic understanding of contracts and subcontracts.

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accurate documentation practices.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Eagerness to learn and to take calculated, well-reasoned risks.

• Clear, professional written and verbal communication.

• Ability to identify and solve complex field issues.

• Proficiency in project-based software, including document control and scheduling platforms.

• Familiarity with AHJ and regulatory requirements.

• Traveling position: 100% onsite.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Building Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar).

• OSHA 30 and a relevant quality or safety credential.

• Proficiency in Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, and Smartsheet.

• Experience with FKOP, direct-to-site material tracking, or owner-furnished equipment coordination.

• Demonstrated use of AI tools such as Claude.ai to reduce cycle time on reporting and document control.

• Experience in modular construction or design-build environments.

Advancement Criteria

Advancement to Field Project Manager I requires demonstrated performance in all of the following, evaluated annually:

• A minimum of 2 years in the Field Engineer II role.

• Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and the DMC methodology.

• Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts.

• Demonstrated understanding of how to navigate local AHJ and State Health permits and inspections.

• Strong planning, organization, and time management skills.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.

• Demonstrated schedule and cost control fundamentals.

• Working understanding of material procurement and subcontractor pricing.

• Demonstrated awareness of risk, margin, and financial performance for the project.

• Demonstrated ability to simplify and communicate complex ideas and plans.
