About this role

Georgia Institute of Technology is a public research university committed to academic excellence, innovation, collaboration, and ethical stewardship. The Financial Analyst will develop and compile financial data, conduct analyses, reconciliations, and projections, and prepare financial reports, forecasts, budgets, and specialized analyses for the School of Physics.

What you'll do:

  • Use data entry, calculations, estimates, reconciliations, reports, etc. in order to achieve results of data needed for analysis. This may be inclusive of projects, programs, or other initiatives where data analysis is needed. Run reports as needed
  • Determine, develop, organize and streamline data to be used for completion in financial analysis. Provide review and approval of financial documents, transactions, etc
  • Prepare forecasts and analysis of trends in general business conditions and other related areas
  • Analyze and verify funding sources to ensure appropriate spending and billing practices
  • Provide results of analysis and methodology used to determine results
  • Remain current on financial reporting (internal to organization) and external, applicable regulations, processes, etc
  • May be responsible for performing assigned financial audit functions; based on results from financial analysis to problem solve complex issues
  • Prepare financial summaries and any other specialized reports for presentation
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Managing the financial portfolio for a group of assigned faculty which includes project balance updates, funding updates for HR, Cost transfers, project close-out and equipment re-fabrication
  • Funding updates and EDRS for PI's research staff

What they're looking for:

  • Associate's Degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • No prior relevant work experience required
  • Application of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices; basic financial analysis and forecasting techniques; use of financial/accounting related software
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One year of direct job experience
  • Prior experience in higher education
  • Application of specialized skills within a university or government agency environment; ability to apply knowledge of regulations and reporting requirements specific to area of involvement
