About this role
Toyota Material Handling is seeking a Firmware Development Engineering Intern to join its New Product Development team. The intern will develop firmware testing utility tools, create and execute tests, troubleshoot firmware issues, and collaborate with firmware development, testing, systems engineering, and product teams.
What you'll do:
- Develop software utility tools to support firmware testing activities and integrate them with test environments
- Create and execute tests against product requirements on test fixtures and on various forklifts
- Support troubleshooting and debugging activities to help identify, reproduce, and resolve firmware issues
- Gain hands-on experience with the embedded software development process
- Collaborate with firmware development, firmware test, systems engineering, and product teams to support New Product Development activities
What they're looking for:
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science. relevant field(s)
- Basic understanding of embedded systems, software development, or firmware testing
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or similar languages
- Interest in hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and working with hardware/software integration
- This is an in-person role located at our **Columbus, IN** office—ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
- Experience with Linux, embedded software, microcontrollers, communication protocols, or automated testing
- Familiarity with version control tools, build environments, or continuous integration pipelines
- Interest in vehicle systems, industrial equipment, or connected product technologies
