About this role
Bracco Medical Technologies develops medical devices that provide healthcare providers with insights for diagnosing patients. The Firmware Engineering Co-op will design, test, and debug embedded systems, develop firmware and Python-based test automation, troubleshoot communication interfaces and hardware/firmware issues, and collaborate with engineering teams on working prototypes.
What you'll do:
- Write and debug firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems
- Implement and troubleshoot communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and Serial (UART)
- Use JTAG emulators and debugging tools to identify and resolve hardware/firmware issues
- Develop Python scripts to support test automation, data collection, and validation
- Use AI tools to accelerate code generation and build test scripts
- Support data processing and analysis from test and sensor data
- Prototype and validate designs using off-the-shelf development boards (e.g., Arduino, vendor eval boards)
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to bring designs from concept to working prototype
- Document code, test procedures, and results clearly for the team
What they're looking for:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficiency with C/C++
- Working knowledge of Python
- Eden Prairie, Minnesota (no relocation or housing assistance available)
- Spring/Summer 2027 start, 2-3 semester rotation, can be consecutive or non-consecutive semesters
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Coursework or hands-on experience with microcontrollers and basic circuits
- Experience with communication interfaces: I2C, SPI, and Serial
- Familiarity with JTAG emulators and hardware debugging tools
- General understanding of using AI tools to generate code and test scripts
- Experience with data processing or analysis
- Hands-on experience with development boards such as Arduino or other vendor development kits
