Candidate will be required to perform and pass a demonstrative abilities test utilizing light to medium equipment in order to move forward to an interview panel.

Why does the job exist?

 
This position performs diagnostics and repairs of light automotive gasoline and heavy-duty diesel equipment.

How does it get done?

 
This mechanic will diagnose problems, perform repairs on gasoline, and diesel-powered equipment for District Two.

Who are the customers?

 
This position will help support internal New Mexico Department of Transportation employees.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have the following:

- Experience in ordering mechanic parts;
- The ability to diagnosis equipment through the use of scanner and computer;
- Customer service experience; and
- The ability to work and make decisions independently with little supervision.

Minimum Qualification

 
Six (6) months of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility. Educational experience in automotive service repair may substitute for required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class A (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must have or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of hire. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions; work irregular hours; subject to call out for emergencies; the incumbent must use computer based diagnostic equipment, read and understand hydraulic schematics and perform necessary repairs with hydraulic gauges. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 90 pounds. This position requires frequent travel with overnight stays and maybe required to travel District Wide. Possible geographic location change. Must be available to respond to emergency call outs on short notice.
