Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Position Details:

Patient Care Associate

Department:  Float Pool - Mercy STL - Ballas Campus 📍

Hours / Shift: Days (7 am -7pm) Nights (7pm-7am)

Full time : 3-12 hour shifts per week

Part time: 2-12 hour shifts per week

🩺 Responsibilities for Patient Care Associate (PCA):

  • Obtain vital signs and document in the electronic medical record system 📊
  • Assist with patient care needs, including:
    • Meals
    • Bathing
    • Toileting
    • Ambulation
    • Mobility assistance
    • Patient transport
  • Provide clerical support as needed

🔬 Responsibilities for Patient Care Technician (PCT):

  • Perform all PCA job duties
  • Phlebotomy / blood cultures
  • Enteral feeding
  • Wound care
  • IV / Foley removal
  • Tracheostomy care & suctioning

🎓 Training

  • Our Patient Care Associate Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program
  • Gain hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment

📘 No Experience? No Problem!

  • Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements
  • Training is completed during new hire orientation and must be finished within 90 days

🫀 Certifications Requirements:

  • BLS required within 1 month of hire
  • PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire

Qualifications

🎓 Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • CNA/CPTC or
  • Currently enrolled in a healthcare program
  • OR current Mercy co-worker

🧪 Experience:

  • None required

💪 Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly 🏋️
  • Prolonged standing and walking during shifts 🚶‍♂️
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat 🔄
