Front End Engineer

Mobomo is a full-service DevOps agency dedicated to creating elegant solutions to solve complex problems. The Front End Engineer will modernize and maintain scalable, accessible, high-performing federal web applications, including patient-facing Department of Veterans Affairs websites. The role focuses on React development, backend integration, accessibility compliance, testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

What you'll do:

• Lead and support the transition of legacy front-end codebases (e.g., Backbone.js) to modern, maintainable React architectures to improve system scalability, application performance, and developer efficiency
• Design, build, and maintain responsive, reusable, and customizable UI components for desktop and mobile environments using React, TypeScript/JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, and Bootstrap
• Utilize React hooks, state management, and RESTful microservices to integrate backend services into interactive client-server applications
• Build and test web applications to ensure strict adherence to Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility standards using tools such as ANDI, WAVE, Color Contrast Analyzer, and Chrome Lighthouse
• Implement test-driven development (TDD) workflows by writing unit, integration, and regression tests using tools like Jest, React Testing Library, Jasmine, and JUnit
• Partner remotely with Product Management, Design, and Backend Engineering teams using Agile tools and practices including Git, Jira, Slack, and pair programming

What they're looking for:

• 1–3 years of professional experience in front-end software development with a focus on React.js
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, JSON, and Bootstrap or similar UI frameworks
• Solid understanding of React fundamentals, including hooks, component lifecycle, and state management strategies
• Experience with unit testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library) and version control using Git
