About the Department
DEFINITION:
Provides parking, campus safety, traffic control, and customer service support to promote a safe, orderly, and welcoming College environment. Patrols campus property, enforces parking regulations, responds to routine service calls and incidents, assists campus community members and visitors, and supports parking and safety operations as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives supervision from the Parking Coordinator.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Support evening and weekend events, parking operations, and campus safety needs.
- Patrol parking areas and campus property to promote safe, orderly parking and compliance with College regulations.
- Coordinate parking operations for events, including staffing, deck gates, traffic flow, access control, cones, barricades, and signage.
- Monitor parking capacity and identify operational, equipment, and facility needs.
- Monitor extended/overnight parking and identify vehicles subject to towing or other enforcement.
- Issue parking warnings and citations and investigate vehicle information through the T2 system.
- Assist with parking lot configurations, special parking arrangements, and semester-start parking communications.
- Monitor event calendars to anticipate parking and traffic impacts.
- Respond to routine calls for service and assist motorists with issues such as flat tires and dead batteries.
- Assist with documenting accidents, hit-and-run incidents, and other parking-related concerns.
- Monitor and report safety concerns, suspicious activity, emergencies, and other incidents to appropriate College or emergency personnel.
- Maintain communication with the Campus Safety Coordinator, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, and contracted security personnel as needed.
- Provide courteous customer service and educate students, employees, and visitors regarding parking regulations, procedures, and campus locations.
- Perform basic safety checks and report maintenance, equipment, lighting, or mechanical concerns.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and comply with College safety, conduct, and communication standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Traffic direction and control procedures
- CFCC parking regulations and enforcement
- Parking Gate hardware and collections systems
Ability To:
- Set and achieve objectives
- Maintain accurate records.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Identify suspicious behavior and formulate an action plan to maintain a safe environment.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with others
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
- Walking or standing continuously for 30 minutes or longer, maneuver up and down stairs, and /or sitting for extended periods of time
- Lifting, stooping, climbing, bending, and carrying materials up to 30 pounds
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Working in adverse weather conditions
- Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
- Making sound decisions
- Answering questions
- Responding to the needs of faculty, staff and guests to the College
- Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
- Ability to verbally communicate and relay instructions to public
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Minimum Education/Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license and a driving record that meets College-established standards.
Minimum Experience:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills, including email and data entry.
- Ability to communicate professionally with students, employees, visitors, and the public.
- Ability to follow established safety, parking, and campus policies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, or special events when required.
- Basic ability to operate or learn to operate campus/parking equipment.
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Previous experience in parking operations, campus operations, facilities, security, transportation, or customer service.
- Experience working in a college/university or other large-campus environment.
- Experience with parking management systems, access-control systems, citation systems, or related software.
- Experience operating maintenance vehicles, carts, or other campus equipment.
- Knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements and general parking regulations.
- Experience coordinating events, traffic flow, parking assignments, or temporary closures.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.
