Position Duties
This position supports Fort Indiantown Gap by diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a large fleet of diesel and natural gas-powered generators and related equipment. The role ensures that emergency power systems and light plants remain safe, dependable, and ready for use. As a Generator Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Generator Repair: Diagnose and repair engines, alternators, fuel systems, cooling systems, control panels, and other components
- Troubleshooting Tasks: Resolve mechanical and electronic failures using diagnostic tools and replace or calibrate controls and sensors
- System Testing: Test diesel and natural gas engines to identify defects and repair or replace faulty fuel system parts
- Equipment Installation: Install standby generators and transfer switches and coordinate testing with manufacturer representatives
- Preventive Maintenance: Maintain service schedules, inspect equipment, perform load-bank testing, and make adjustments and calibrations
- Operational Support: Work with site departments, prepare maintenance records, transport tools and equipment, and follow all safety procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. In this role, you will be required to work during emergencies and office closings.
- Overtime as operationally necessary
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of skilled experience in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of generators, which includes one year of skilled experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel generators; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of skilled experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel generators.
- You must have possession of an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Completion of any formal training (high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post high school technical program) in the electrical trade
- Experience as an electrician
- Experience working with generators
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on generators
- Experience pulling oil for sampling from generators
- Experience trouble shooting mechanical and electrical issues in generators
- Experience installing new generators and manual and/or automatic transfer switches for backup power to facilities
- Experience working on diesel, liquid propane (LP), and/or natural gas generators
- Experience working from construction sketches, diagrams, and/or blueprints in the electrical trade
