Geospatial Tech & Data - Vendor Mgmt Intern - MN, CO

Xcel Energy is an electricity and natural gas energy company. The Geospatial Data Validation Intern will support utility mapping and asset data improvement initiatives by validating, cleaning, and maintaining spatial and attribute data, while collaborating with GIS, asset management, and operations teams.

What you'll do:

• GIS Data Management & Mapping: Create, edit, and maintain GIS datasets and maps; produce digital and print maps for internal/external use
• Spatial Analysis: Perform geospatial analysis using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) and geodatabases
• Data Collection & QA/QC: Collect, clean, and organize spatial and tabular data; support field data collection via GPS devices or mobile GIS apps; conduct quality assurance on GIS data

What they're looking for:

• Current student, Junior or higher
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields
• Personal vehicle needed to travel to other worksites
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify data discrepancies
• Experience working with spreadsheets, databases, and data analysis tools
• Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, Smallworld, or similar platforms
• Basic understanding of spatial data concepts and utility infrastructure is preferred
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment
