About this role
The Global Conference Operations Project Manager 3 is an integral member of the Global Conferences team within the Priesthood and Family Department.
This role serves as the operational subject matter expert for critical conference support functions and is responsible for guiding the strategy, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operational capabilities that support conferences worldwide.
This position leads highly complex projects and operational initiatives that require coordination across multiple departments, stakeholders, and geographic regions. The role influences conference strategy and operational decisions affecting accessibility, financial stewardship, staffing, participant safety, risk management, and conference implementation worldwide.
Responsibilities
Conference Operations Strategy & Leadership
- Lead strategic planning elements and operational development for large-scale conferences and events worldwide.
- Establish globally scalable operational processes, standards, tools, and governance models that support global conference execution.
- Identify opportunities to improve conference effectiveness, participant experience, operational consistency, and organizational stewardship.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders regarding conference operations, implementation strategies, and organizational readiness.
Budget Stewardship & Financial Operations
- Lead operational budgeting and billing initiatives that support global conference delivery.
- Partner with finance organizations and Area teams to improve financial processes, reporting, accountability, and stewardship.
- Analyze operational costs and recommend strategies that reduce expenses while maintaining or improving conference outcomes.
- Support long-range planning related to conference funding models and operational sustainability.
Accessibility & Global Inclusion
- Establish and maintain accessibility standards, guidance, and operational practices for conferences worldwide.
- Partner with leaders and subject matter experts to support accessible conference experiences and accommodations.
- Evaluate operational models and resources to ensure accessibility considerations are incorporated into planning and implementation efforts.
- Provide strategic guidance regarding accessibility-related conference operations.
Incident Reporting, Compliance & Risk Management
- Direct operational oversight and continuous improvement of conference incident reporting processes.
- Lead development and maintenance of participant agreements, operational policies, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate with Legal, Risk Management, and Area partners regarding operational risks and mitigation strategies.
- Promote safe, compliant, and consistent conference operations across global programs.
Staffing Strategy & Workforce Operations
- Lead initiatives related to seasonal staffing models and operational workforce planning.
- Partner with universities, HR organizations, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support staffing capabilities.
- Evaluate and recommend staffing strategies that improve operational scalability and conference effectiveness.
- Support development of future operational models related to recruiting, onboarding, training, deployment, and management of conference staff.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Lead strategic relationships with vendors and operational service providers supporting conference delivery.
- Evaluate vendor performance, capabilities, costs, and operational effectiveness.
- Support procurement efforts, contract discussions, and service improvement initiatives.
- Ensure partnerships align with organizational goals and conference operational requirements.
Enterprise Project Leadership
- Lead cross-functional initiatives involving multiple departments, operational domains, and stakeholders.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Facilitate executive discussions, planning efforts, and decision-making processes.
- Prepare recommendations, business cases, proposals, reports, presentations, and strategic planning materials for leadership.
- Mentor and provide guidance to interns, project team members, and others contributing to conference operations initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Project Management, Event Management, Risk Management, Public Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in project management, operations leadership, conference management, event operations, logistics, risk management, staffing operations, business management, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated success leading highly complex cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and organizational groups.
- Experience managing project scope, budget, schedule, risk, dependencies, and strategic outcomes.
- Proven ability to influence decisions and build alignment among senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop scalable operational processes, governance models, and implementation frameworks.
- Experience navigating ambiguity and making sound decisions in dynamic operational environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and enterprise project management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale conferences, educational programs, youth programs, nonprofit organizations, or global events.
- Experience with enterprise operational planning, governance, and process design.
- Experience with accessibility planning, accommodation programs, and inclusive participant experiences.
- Experience with incident reporting, compliance programs, risk management, safety planning, or legal documentation.
- Experience with staffing operations, workforce planning, recruiting, training, or large seasonal workforce models.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, service agreements, or operational partnerships.
- Experience working with international teams, global stakeholders, or multi-cultural environments.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Project Management, Event Management, Risk Management, Public Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management credential.
- Fluency in one or more additional languages.
