About this role
Avicena Tech is seeking a Hardware Automation Software Engineering Intern to develop and maintain software for wafer handling automation and measurement systems. The role involves building Python software, interfacing with custom hardware and instruments, debugging software and hardware issues, and writing maintainable, documented code.
What you'll do:
- Build out our wafer handling automation and measurement software in Python, from implementing new features to interfacing with custom hardware and instruments
- Work on existing test and measurement software to roll out updates and bug fixes
- Debug issues when they show up, whether in the software or in the hardware
- Write code the rest of the team can maintain: typed, documented, and reviewed
What they're looking for:
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
- Strong object oriented programming skills. You know how to split a problem into classes without coupling everything together, and where to section things off
- Strong debugging skills, ability to narrow down the problem and trace it down without giving up, regardless of the source of the issue
- Familiar with common design patterns and software architectures. Good judgement, and you plan out how to structure code before writing it
- Able to work independently at times. We will point you in the right direction, but you should be comfortable making good design decisions on your own
- Strong understanding of Python, ability to write maintainable and extendable code
- Understanding of multithreaded programs and principles
- Scripting experience for writing out test cases and one-off experiments
- Organized and detail-oriented, should document progress while working
- Comfortable with using Git and GitHub
- Good coding etiquette and solid communication skills
- Experience writing hardware drivers and/or controlling lab equipment
