MANAGER, Hazmat & Product Compliance 

The Hazmat & Product Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for employees that is free of recognized hazards, as well ensuring that hazmat compliance is maintained according to company expectations. Ensures compliance for DOT, FAA, and OSHA regulations. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and a pleasant personality; effective memory skills; good hand eye coordination; dependability, ability to follow directions, and a strong willingness to learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with various stakeholders in the business to drive change and communicate findings through supporting data
  • Prepare each account for unannounced regulatory visits (OSHA, DOT, FAA, etc.) based on Corporate direction and annual Corporate Compliance Audits
  • Implement and modify processes to reduce risk specific to compliance and regulation of Hazardous Materials
  • Assist leaders across US fulfillment centers and the corporate offices to ensure that compliance is being met in regards to Hazardous Materials.
  • Partner with various stakeholders in the business to drive change and communicate findings through supporting data
  • Partner with vendors to ensure that clients’ product, both inbound and outbound, is correctly identified as the correct category or classification
  • Ensure Document Control and Record Keeping are taking place around Hazardous Material within the fulfillment centers
  • Assess risk as the Supply Chain Network grows, fulfillment centers continue to open, hiring increases, and the product selection continues to increase
  • Partner with operations managers at each of the fulfillment centers to drive compliance, execute training, and create awareness across the network
  • Create and conduct trainings to improve compliance, raise awareness, and improve engagement around Hazardous Material
  • Work with tech and WMS teams to communicate needs for compliance in certain processes within operations
  • Create and implement metrics and data points that communicate efforts and results within the network

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Health Science or Science related field from four-year college or university
  • 3-5 years plus years of experience in Hazmat or compliance position
  • Strong knowledge on shipping specifications based on hazardous types
  • OSHA certifications related to Environmental Health or Hazmat; not required, but a plus
  • Willing to travel to assess/support DC’s across the fulfillment network (less than 5%)
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities with tight deadlines
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills required
  • Excitement for working in a start-up environment with high level of ambiguity and change

  • Effective communicator and leader for employees, direct reports, cross-functional teams and executive leadership
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt and drive the right results using data

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Ability to work in both a team environment as well as independently, occasionally in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work all hours necessary in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
  • Position requires good PC skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Deliver resolution to issues and promote process improvement.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels both internally and externally.
  • Must complete and submit a background screening that will be conducted by the U.S. Government post hire.

  • Must be able to work on a variety of warehouse floors up to 100 feet in height
  • Must be about to work in a warehouse environment with a noise level up to 85dBA
