Reporting to the VP, Head of Talent, the AVP, Organization Effectiveness plays a pivotal role in shaping the Bank’s structure and enhancing its effectiveness. This position will be accountable for leading a team of expert advisors to provide advice, challenge, and support to optimize business performance and enable the Bank in achieving our vision, purpose, and culture.
Through deep expertise in organization design, change management, and governance, the AVP will serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor to HR and business leaders in developing and executing on organizational effectiveness goals. This individual will be accountable for linking forward-thinking advice with on-the ground execution. It is critical that what is built, can be delivered, infused into the business, and ultimately measured by outcomes. In addition to demonstrating commercial and business acumen, the AVP, Organizational Effectiveness should display exceptional consulting, decision-making and problem-solving abilities. S/he will have previous experience navigating ambiguity within organizations of relevant scale and complexity, and will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The AVP, Organizational Effectiveness will continually assess internal organizational needs and keep pace with external trends in support of developing world-class strategies and plans to achieve business objectives through enhanced organizational effectiveness, with a future-focused mindset.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:
Organizational Design Strategy: Develop and lead organization design strategies that align with the bank’s goals, integrating agile methodologies and supporting structures that drive flexibility, role clarity, and operational excellence. (e.g. operating models, structures, role design, interaction models, etc.)
Agile-Based Organizational Design: Design and implement "Next Evolution of Work" organizational structures tailored to agile-based environments (journeys, platforms, and practices), creating adaptable team structures and collaborative frameworks to enhance responsiveness and delivery.
Collaboration with Leadership: Partner with HR business partners, business leaders and key stakeholders to assess current structures, understand business objectives, and deliver recommendations for organizational restructuring or role evolution that foster agility and innovation.
Expert Org Design & Communication: Leverage advanced organization design capabilities to analyze and optimize structures, distill complex concepts, and communicate findings and recommendations effectively to senior leaders.
Team Development: Build and mentor a world-class team of organization design consultants, developing deep expertise and trusted advisor mindsets. Foster a one-team attitude and growth mindsets that take accountability to drive performance.
Change Management: Integrate change management within organization design and effectiveness efforts to support smooth transitions through strategic communication, stakeholder management, colleague engagement, and related supports to foster buy-in, adoption and sustainment.
Data-Driven Insights: Utilize metrics, workforce analytics, and feedback to inform design decisions and continually assess structural effectiveness.
Job Architecture Development: Work closely with HR and business leaders to establish and maintain consistent job architecture, including titles, levels, and career pathways.
Policy & Governance: Ensure quality and consistency in the application of key organization effectiveness elements, such as the OD methodology and standards, organization design health check measures, job evaluations, capability models, etc. Balance challenge with advice and support, ensuring recommendations both meet business needs and align with TD standards and best practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• 10+ years of relevant domain experience, ideally within financial services; consulting experience and knowledge of TD's business are assets
• University degree in HR, organizational development, business management, or a related discipline; MBA or advanced education in organization design is an asset
• Expert level experience in organization design practices and methodologies
• Familiarity with agile delivery and organizational design for agile-based organizations
• Expert consulting skills, anchored in problem solving, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data, critical analysis, and executive level reports/presentations
• Experience in managing complex projects and change management initiatives
• Advanced analytical and communication skills to distill complex concepts and present actionable recommendations to senior leaders
• Proven ability to develop, lead, and inspire teams that deliver superior results
• Track record of providing thought leadership, continuous improvement and innovating for the future
• Results-oriented project management skills; Organized with a high attention to detail
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly PowerPoint
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations within the banking industry is advantageous
