About the Department

Housed in the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services, Division of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Hepatitis and Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination’s STD Program, the STD Registrar (HHR Associate) is responsible for managing STD reports to include maintenance of STD laboratory and treatment reports for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and/or syphilis in the West Virginia Electronic Disease Surveillance System (WVEDSS) to track individuals in West Virginia with sexually transmitted diseases and serve as a historical repository for syphilis case histories and interviews with patients and their exposed partners and associates to ensure treatment and education throughout those affected within the state. The STD Registrar will provide program area assistance, technical assistance and coordination to assure that the West Virginia STD programs are maximally effective and provide STD prevention intervention in communities throughout West Virginia. This position plays a critical role in maintaining STD reporting requirements to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) via WVEDSS notifications, and assigns investigations for field follow-up when they meet applicable criteria. The Registrar is required to collect clinical information from ordering providers and/or electronic health records (EHR) that meet the core data requirements for reporting. Communication with medical providers may be necessary for any missing demographic/locating information necessary for data input. Calls are also made for assurance of treatment for priority populations (i.e. pregnant females). Office Located in Charleston, WV.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in paraprofessional or responsible clerical work at a level consistent with the work performed by an Office Assistant III and which required application of state and federal laws and/or guidelines, may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
