DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on supervising specialized maintenance crews and managing major roadway projects year-round. Your responsibilities will focus on planning work, directing crews, maintaining safety, and ensuring high-quality workmanship. As a Highway Foreman 3, you will perform the following duties:
- Crew Supervision: Lead equipment operators and laborers in specialized maintenance tasks such as paving, surface treatment, bridge work, and sign structure installation
- Project Planning: Plan, schedule, and organize work activities while recommending scopes of work, materials, and equipment needs
- Record Management: Maintain accurate work records, report injuries or accidents, and document unusual occurrences on job sites
- Safety Leadership: Select proper traffic control setups, promote safe work habits, and encourage awareness to prevent accidents and injuries
- Employee Development: Train and guide crew members, evaluate performance, approve leave, and assist with interviews, coaching, and disciplinary steps as necessary
- Field Adjustments: Make necessary adjustments to vehicles and equipment to support safe and efficient operation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and shift work are required. Work hours are subject to change based upon seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Organization or Location Restrictions:
- This posting is restricted to Department of Transportation, Indiana County employees only.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 2; or
- Three years of experience as a skilled tradesman including one year of supervisory experience on a highway maintenance or construction project; or
- Three years of supervisory experience on a maintenance or construction project; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. If no applicable union-covered bidders apply, other applicants may be considered.
