About the Department

The SC Department Agriculture is seeking a dynamic individual to add to our Human Resources team!

A few of the responsibilities of this Human Resources Assistant position include:
  • Providing general human resources assistance to employees. 
  • Creating new hire files and maintaining employee files, both electronic and paper. 
  • Serving on the team to assist callers on the main SCDA telephone line and welcoming visitors to the agency.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive filing system for personnel, positions, and postings.
  • Updating organizational charts.
  • Assisting with collecting, documenting, and filing employee evaluations and planning stages.
  • Collaborating with teammates to prepare content and submit contributions for the monthly employee newsletter.  
  • Assisting with recruiting efforts to include creating job postings, dispositioning candidates, scheduling interviews, documenting candidates interviewed in the online applicant system, serving on interview panels, etc.
  • Calling references for job applicants.
  • Scheduling training, ordering ID badges for employees, and requesting visitor parking spaces.
  • Drafting revisions to human resources policies and procedures. 
  • Assisting in planning and executing human resources related events.
  • Proofreading internal documents for proper grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
  • Reviewing time entry reports within HRIS and communicating with employees and/or supervisors regarding missing information. 
  • Mailing out COBRA Notices as directed from HR staff members.

Position Duties

An associate's degree and two years' administrative or human resources experience.  A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior Human Resources experience.
  • SC Enterprise Information Service (SCEIS) experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.  
  • Ability to communicate with employees and all levels of management.  
  • Must have good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with customers, employees, and co-workers.
  • Must be able to sit/stand to perform work on a computer for long periods.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Work requires standing, lifting and/or bending for short periods of time throughout the day.  
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments at once.
  • A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is required.
  • This position is located in the Wade Hampton building on the Statehouse grounds.  This is not a remote position.
