Human Resources Intern

The City of Birmingham, Michigan is seeking highly motivated candidates for a paid Human Resources Internship. The HR Intern will assist the department in its operations, focusing on personnel administration, recruitment, labor relations, and employee engagement.

What you'll do:

• Prepares routine correspondence
• Manage assigned projects for recruitment, recordkeeping, and benefits
• Assist with the recruitment process by posting positions, scheduling interviews, and sitting on interview panels
• Maintain records for personnel files, workers comp cases, and FMLA cases
• Assist with benefit administration
• Assist with the planning of employee engagement events
• Additional related responsibilities as assigned

What they're looking for:

• Current Junior, Senior, or Graduate-level student enrolled in Business/Public Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Development/Psychology, Management, or other related program
• Ability to work individually, within a group and under general supervision
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other common software applications including a desire and ability to quickly learn new programs
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
• Time management, analytical, and customer service skills
• Proficient computer skills
• Ability to learn quickly on the job
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time
