About this role

The Inter-American Development Bank is a multilateral development bank that supports economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will support the Office of the Executive Vice President through project pipeline analytics, project design quality control, operational guidance, preparation of strategic insights and materials, and special initiatives.

What you'll do:

  • Project pipeline data analytics: Conduct comprehensive analyses of the IDB’s project pipeline (projects under preparation that are expected to reach Board approval), examining patterns, bottlenecks, and key factors that influence and predict preparation timelines and approval outcomes. Using this evidence, build models to increase the predictability of pipeline outcomes
  • Project design quality control: Support the review of the design of IDB loans, guarantees, and technical cooperations for quality control purposes before they are submitted to the Board for approval. Provide constructive feedback to teams on how to improve their projects’ design and advise the EVP on strategic project design issues
  • Support to operations teams: Provide guidance to operations teams on how to apply and comply with existing Bank policies and regulations
  • Operational inputs: Prepare project specific and other operational insights on themes relevant to the EVP Office (e.g., approval trends, project risk factors, fiduciary considerations) and contribute to knowledge management. Prepare briefs, presentations, and other materials to support strategic discussions at the Bank
  • Other projects: Conduct special initiatives and projects assigned by EVP Office staff

What they're looking for:

  • An active graduate student in fields such as International Development, Economics, Public Policy, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Business Administration, or related areas from an accredited University. The expected graduation date should be after the Internship period
  • Fluency in English
  • Learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
  • Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills
  • Statistics/econometrics knowledge is preferred, including proficiency in data analytics software (e.g., Python, R, Stata, Power BI, and familiarity with SQL and relational databases)
  • Strong writing skills in English, with the ability to prepare summaries, briefs, and presentations in layman's terms for multiple audiences
  • Be a national of an IDB member country
  • Enrolled in a graduate (master's or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the internship period
  • Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest
  • Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”)
  • In addition, you must not be a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality
