IDB. Intern to Support Social Sector in Research on Economic Participation and Economic Security

The Inter-American Development Bank is a multilateral development institution supporting economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will support research on economic participation, economic security, economic empowerment, and social sector issues through data preparation, econometric analysis, literature reviews, policy indicator construction, and research paper development.

What you'll do:

• Cleaning and harmonizing survey and administrative data, including, but not limited to, ENDES and ENAHO in Peru, and ENOE, ENDIREH, and ENASEM/MHAS in Mexico
• Contributing to the design and implementation of descriptive and econometric analyses using survey data
• Constructing policy environment indicators by compiling and coding information from administrative records, legal reforms, and program rules
• Contributing to literature reviews for research papers
• Contributing to the drafting of research papers
• Conducting complementary analytical work and preparing other outputs as needed by the research team

What they're looking for:

• An active graduate student in economics, sociology, political science, public policy, public health, and other related fields from an accredited University
• The graduation date should be after the Internship period
• Knowledge of recent academic literature on labor force participation, employment, and social sector issues in low- and middle-income countries
• Fluency in English
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, and experience in the following areas: (a) econometric analysis of large-scale survey and panel microdata; (b) statistical programming (preferably R or Python, Stata ok)
• Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills
• Be a national of an IDB member country
• Enrolled in a graduate (master's or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program
• The graduation date should be after the Internship period
• Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest
• Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”)
• In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality
