IDB. Technical AI and Data Intern

The Inter-American Development Bank is seeking an undergraduate intern to gain professional experience through on-the-job learning in development work and corporate management. The intern will support data preparation, AI prototyping and evaluation, research responsible AI practices, and communication of technical findings to stakeholders.

What you'll do:

• Support the collection, cleaning, organization, and preparation of data for AI, machine learning, and analytics use cases
• Assist in developing, testing, and documenting AI prototypes, proofs of concept, and automation solutions under the guidance of technical team members
• Contribute to the evaluation of AI models and tools by analyzing outputs, identifying limitations, and summarizing opportunities for improvement
• Research emerging AI methods, tools, and responsible AI practices to inform team discussions and support their practical application within business processes
• Prepare clear technical documentation, summaries, and presentations to communicate AI findings, progress, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders

What they're looking for:

• • Education: An active undergraduate student in Artificial Intelligence from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period
• • Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus
• • Key Skills: Learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
• • Soft Skills: Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills
• • Technical skills: Basic programming skills in Python; familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI; understanding of machine learning and generative AI concepts; ability to work with structured and unstructured data; basic knowledge of APIs, prompt engineering, and AI evaluation techniques; and ability to document technical work clearly
• • Citizenship: Be a national of an IDB member country
• • Active student: Enrolled in an undergraduate (bachelor's) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period
• • Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest
• • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality
• • You must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) from January 16th to March 15th, 2027. These dates are fixed and cannot be modified. Interns must complete their assignments within this period
• • If you are an international student in the U.S.A., your work authorization is through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week, many international students are limited to working part-time, depending on their academic standing
