About this role
The Information Systems Assistant position provides an educational environment for a motivated student to develop and utilize relevant skills in computing to support the information system goals of staff and programs within University General (UGEN). The exact duties will be determined on an ongoing basis by the IT Engineer. Staff needs, current projects, and priorities will be considered when determining ongoing assignments. Assistants are expected to develop new skills during employment.
Required Skills:
- Superiror communication skills (Verbal, In Person, Phone, and Written)
- Familiarity with the internal hardware of a computer
- Experience working with and solving problems with Windows/MacOS
- Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Products (Chrome, Gmail, Drive, etc.)
- Experience with setting up and working with printers
Daily Duties May Include:
- Clerical tasks in support of ongoing projects
- Telephone support/inquires for users in the supported areas
- Electronic mail support/inquires for users in the supported areas
- PC compatible hardware support
- Configuration of computing equipment in a networked environment
- Movement and installtion of computing equipment (lifting of up to 50 lbs. required)
- Working with hardware vendors to troubleshoot and repair hardware problems
- Providing software support for Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 11, Apple Operating Systems, Adobe Acrobat, or other software programs utilized by the staff
- Software installation following established guidelines for security and licensing
- Working with software vendors to troubleshoot and repair software problems
- Small project development and maintenance using appropriate software
- Create documentation and training materials for new and existing projects
- Additional responsibilites as assigned by appropriate staff
Additional Oppurtunities: (Projects based on experience, knowledge, and time)
- Development of automated processes through Group Policy and/or scripting
- Development of new and existing software projects in C# or other appropriate languages
Reporting Responsibilties:
The information systems assistant reports directly to the IT Engineer. Additonal supervision will be provided by full-time staff in the UGEN & EXEC IT Support.
Training:
Assistants must complete training for the operation of the university vehicle. The UGEN & EXEC IT Support staff will provide appropriate technical training for new projects and responsibilities on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid driver's license.
- Must have experience diagnosing and repairing computer-related hardware (CPUs, printers, monitors).
- Prior knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office required.
Compensation:
$13.50/hour, up to 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring semesters. All Applicants MUST be Federal Work Study eligible.
