About the Department
DEFINITION:
This is a 12-month EMS faculty position. Faculty provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal. Faculty are responsible for the planning, programming, instruction and evaluation of the both curriculum and continuing education program offerings. Faculty, whether designated as curriculum or continuing education (CE/EWD), may be assigned instructional hours in either curriculum or continuing education courses as necessary to meet minimum workload requirements and institutional needs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives direct supervision and technical direction from the EMS Program Director
- Exercises no supervision
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
This position requires faculty to have a presence on campus primarily focusing on teaching and learning, academic excellence, and student success. The primary responsibilities of faculty include:
Essential Functions:
- Designing and implementing learning strategies for students both in the curriculum and continuing education enrolled in the CFCC EMS program;
- Delivering instructional materials provided by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS);
- Plan, direct, and participate in the instruction for the EMSProgram;
- Develop materials, tests, and practical exercises that supplement instruction and ensure student retain knowledge;
- Enhance learning and critique of program goals through communication and discussion;
- Analyze programmatic problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of student success and program goal attainment;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers and program partnerships;
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of course delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the program director
- Developing and abide by the course syllabi;
- Maintaining instructional and attendance records;
- Evaluating technical standards of practice delivered by students;
Other Important Functions:
- Participate in the academic program efforts to recruit and retain students; coordinate the development, review, and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations’ activities.
- Advising of students;
- Ensuring that retention standards are prioritized;
- Participating in college activities and committees,
- Assess material, supply, and equipment needs for the EMS program; submit requests for the ordering of supplies to the program director. Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Work with industry partners and faculty to ensure our programs are teaching the most up to date techniques and the latest industry trends.
- Coordinate activities with student services in the implementation of CFCC EMS admission, progression, certification, and graduation policies.
- Ensure the adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required which support the mission and initiatives of the Cape Fear Community College EMS Program
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
- Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
- Principles and practices of curriculum development and instructional strategies.
- Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
Ability To:
- Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
- Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with others
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Minimum Education/Training:
- Education or Certification(s) or industry experience in EMS or a related field.
Minimum Experience:
- Two years of relevant experience in EMS or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
