This position will be located at the Missouri Geological Survey, 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401

Duration of Assignment: Date of hire until end of projects or until 1,000 hours worked.

Responsibilities - What you’ll do

  • Integrate core log and historic mining data into databases as part of MGS/USGS funded critical mineral projects.
  • Interpret geologic terminology and symbology.
  • Perform geochemical field sampling for a critical mineral mine waste project.
  • Use ArcGIS for collection of core locations and mine waste project data.

Qualifications - All you need for success

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

  • Coursework for geology or geology-related degree; comprehension of geologic terminology and concepts.
  • Coursework in mineralogy, petrology, and stratigraphy are preferred.
  • Knowledge of geologic data field collection methods.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office software are preferred.
  • Learning: Uses efficient learning techniques to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills; uses training, feedback, or other opportunities for self-learning and development.
  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
