Intern, AI/ML Engineering

Sephora is a beauty retailer offering an inclusive internship experience with hands-on learning, networking, and business-impacting projects. The Intern, Machine Learning Engineer will support advanced machine learning and Generative AI initiatives by developing data-driven solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and delivering working AI applications.

What you'll do:

• Participate in the design, development, testing, and deployment of advanced machine learning models and algorithms that address complex business challenges
• Apply Generative AI techniques to fine-tune models, support synthetic data generation and data augmentation, and engineer AI agents using commercial and open-source large language models
• Collaborate with domain experts, software engineers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable AI solutions and working applications
• Conduct exploratory data analysis, data preprocessing, and feature engineering to prepare high-quality inputs for modeling, measurement, and testing
• Communicate findings and technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, while contributing to machine learning infrastructure, best practices, and experimentation with emerging AI techniques

What they're looking for:

• Experience with data science, machine learning, Generative AI, or agentic AI systems through coursework, projects, research, or prior work experience
• Proficiency in writing and testing object-oriented Python code, with hands-on experience using machine learning libraries and frameworks
• Working knowledge of deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch and experience implementing AI models
• Knowledge of AI system design, measurement, testing techniques, SQL, and structured or unstructured data processing
• Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Graduating in 2027 or 2028 (undergraduate or graduate degree)
• Must permanently reside and work in the U.S
• Exposure to cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and distributed computing is a plus
